My wife has a simple, almost life-changing, tip if you have short arms:

I bought a pair of silicon tipped tongs to keep in my car, now when I pull up to a parking lot, I just push the button and grab the ticket with the tongs. My short arms thank me every time

I’ve seen it used in real-life. It really works.
