Life and its many opportunities

Now and then I need to upload something over SFTP (usually pretty large site backups) and I’ve been using FileZilla for this the last few months. As “retro” as the UI is, this app is still awesome and I am impressed with the speed of my file transfers every time I use it!

FileZilla FTP client interface showing file transfer in progress between local and remote servers, with directory structure displayed on both sides.
The UI hasn’t changed much

Just wanted to share some love for this venerable app.

I still use, and love, FileZilla. It’s been my FTP client for over a decade I think. Can’t really fault it.

I love FileZilla! Use it every day. It has never failed.

I haven’t noticed this in the current release. That said, I paid for the Pro license.

Iam sure we would be surprised how easy every day tasks are with 2016 old school technology.. or even 2011. That was peak..

I went on a trip to try out alternatives (on Windows) after the SourceForge installer bundle and security issues FileZilla went through years ago. After a while of using the venerable WinSCP I landed on CyberDuck. So far I am quite pleased with it, nice and minimal by default, works great for simple ssh file transfers.

      Cyberduck is also pretty good.

Yeah, Cyberduck has become my personal gold standard for SFTP GUIs. So annoyed that it doesn’t work under WINE.

It’s nice to have an app like FileZilla that not only works the way you expect it to, but continues to maintain the UI in the way you know how to use it. Far too many applications get fresh coats of paint that frustrate the UX – if you can’t figure out how to use it, doesn’t matter how slick it looks.

Wow, I haven’t thought about Filezilla in YEARS (haven’t used it since I left my last job.) Thanks for the memory bump!
