I’m looking forward to watching this one (obviously). 😁 I’m especially interested to see how this reveal at the end of the second trailer plays out:

This is how you dress for a Star Wars convention

Robin Moul apparently made this awesome Star Wars dress, completed with hand lettering. It’s brilliant! The hair stick things (there’s probably a real name for them – I’m clueless) are a nice touch!

From Robin Moul

Robin also posted a tweet of her in the dress at a Star Wars Celebration event:

Hat tip to my ever vigilant wife for finding this, and sending it to me.

Solo was fun! A terrific addition to the Star Wars movie catalogue.

We just watched Solo for the first time. I really enjoyed it. It may not have the same tone as the core Star Wars movies, but it’s a fun background story for Han Solo and Chewbacca.

I channelled Yoda with our kids without meaning to

You know how you seem to channel your parents when you become a parent? I managed to channel Yoda with our kids last night and I’m not sure what that says about me as a parent.

It was getting late, we were all tired from a busy weekend and it was time for the kids to brush their teeth and get ready for bed. As usual, they weren’t listening to me. They were playing on the couch instead so I reminded them to do as I asked (well, instructed) them to do.

Our daughter told me, rather indignantly, that she was “trying” to stop playing with her brother and go brush her teeth. Before I realised it, I found myself replying to her with something along these lines:

There is no trying. Do or do not. Go brush your teeth!

It didn’t help that my wife, who was in the room, immediately picked up on what I said and started laughing. Our poor daughter thought we were laughing at her. We were laughing so hard that we couldn’t explain the joke to her for a few minutes.

I guess channelling Yoda at a time like that merits a few Geek Parent points, even if I probably traumatised our daughter a little in the process.

Essential illustrated history of the Millennium Falcon

If you are a Star Wars fan (ok, not “if”, “because”), you probably also love one of the most iconic ships in the franchise: the Millennium Falcon. Kitbashed has an awesome, illustrated history of Han Solo’s famous ship that you have to read.

The Millennium Falcon underwent a long and arduous number of conceptual iterations before its final iconic shape emerged; the one we now once again see blasting its way across the big screen. In fact it wasn’t even known by its famous name until well into production, having up until then gone under the much mundane moniker: Pirate Ship.

Go make yourself a hot drink and go read “A Complete History of the Millennium Falcon”.

Star Trek and Star Wars

As much as I enjoy Star Trek, the Star Wars universe is s much more diverse and interesting in its diversity.

Star Wars obliterated box office records!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens didn’t just break box office records for 2015, it obliterated them.

If there’s one thing that J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been great at — aside from reminding everyone how much they liked the original movie — it’s been breaking box office recordsLots of them. So it shouldn’t come as a shock that there’s another one rolling in just a few days before the end of the year: Star Wars has helped 2015 become the highest grossing year in US box office history. Deadline reports that North American box office totals for the year have topped $11 billion, with the tally estimated to hit $11.1 billion by the end of the year.

Wow, just wow!
