OpenSSL on a Mac

Has anyone used OpenSSL on a Mac or Ubuntu? I’d like to generate a SSL certificate for my OwnCloud installation so I can test it all out and that seems to be a cheap way to go for now. I can’t find instructions how to do it on a Mac, though. I have access to an Ubuntu machine though so that could also work.

Any suggestions?

If you find the app/setup is working well – I recommend you consider buying an SSL 123 from thawte or another Certificate Authority – that way the cert won’t error or require additional approval when connecting from other devices as CA certs are usually trusted more easily than self signed certs.

This site should give you a general idea of the cost of the various certificates available from different vendors: http://www.trustthesite.com
