I stepped into an academic bookstore yesterday to update one of my books and I was floored by the price of the books there.  One of the books was an updated Evidence Law textbook I used in Law School over a decade ago.  The updated version is almost R1 000 … for a book … in a university bookshop.  Yikes!

The academic publishers really need to get with the times and publish their books for e-readers.  It doesn’t actually matter if the books are only available on the Kindle, at roughly R1 800 for a Kindle 2 it must work out a lot cheaper for students who have to buy these textbooks if they are made available for download at a reasonable price (let’s face it, when they are downloads they can’t possibly cost the same price as the physical paperweights).
