I too have pondered this question as my MobileMe subscription is coming to a close this week.

A few weeks back I cut all ties to MM just to see if I could get by without it. It's gone very smooth with a combination of: Google, BusyCal, Dropbox, and Xmarks (bookmark syncing).

Really, the only thing I'm missing is the 'Find My Phone' feature.
