All are welcome at Mugg & Bean – repost

My wife and I had breakfast at the Mugg & Bean in Killarney on Sunday.  We overheard an anti-semitic comment from someone we thought was a Mugg & Bean person and I published a blog post about it on my personal blog which I have subsequently updated for reasons that will become clear when you read the post.  I am impressed with Mugg & Bean’s management and how they dealt with this complaint.  If anything, that is a good reason to visit not just this Mugg & Bean, but your local one too.

A couple people wanted to comment on the post but are not members of Vox so feel free to comment here.  As always, I recommend that you post something about this yourself.  We are so used to talking about companies that don’t even listen and this is a good example of a company that listens and does something about it.  That is something worth talking about.

    Stereotypes are there because they are often true. There are stereotypes about Germans, Aussies, Americans, Russians and gasp – Jews. Simple. Stereotypes aren't always 100% correct either. More often than not, they are accurate. That doesn't make them right, it just makes them useful.

    Ps. I've seen on your blog that you refer to Nick van der Leek as a 'Trooper'. There's something particularly distasteful about publishing personal insults about people you don't know and have never met face to face in a public domain without their knowledge, never mind reporting negatively on a public space – a restaurant -(incorrectly) in the name of defending your own ego.

    That is quite a view to take. So you are saying that the stereotype of Jews as money grabbing fiends is true and useful? Bearing in mind that this was a stereotype used historically to justify shocking attacks on the Jews, I don't agree that this sort of comment is either true or useful. If anything it only serves to perpetuate a long lasting trend of religious and cultural intolerance and the horrors that anti-semitism have led to.

I on the other hand am obviously not as important because I complained directly to the Franchise Via email & their website atleast 6 months ago, I have to this day not received a response and I have followed up my mails telephonically twice already and No one has bothered to respond. So Paul might lift his ban but I BEG you all stay away from this arrogant and pompas group, Who used to be the best until they grew to big for their own boots.

    I am even more confused about the INSULT “Trooper”

    Besides not being able to find the reference, I looked up the term and it is certainly not an insult but one of endearment

    like a trooper, with great energy, enthusiasm, or display
