DON’T GO NEAR QUECHUP!!

Picture 1.pngSeriously. I was curious and signed up with the service last week and then found out that Quechup has been spamming users’ contacts. A couple social networking sites interface with Gmail, Yahoo! and others to give you the ability to see which of your contacts in your address book are using the service you signed up for. For the most part these services don’t abuse that trust. Quechup does. I closed my account last week and I started seeing mails from my contacts indicating that notwithstanding that I have closed my account, these bastards are spamming all my contacts.

PLEASE DO NOT ACCEPT ANY INVITATION APPARENTLY FROM ME TO SIGN UP WITH QUECHUP. IT IS A TRAP, IT IS EVIL AND ALL BAD. THE INVITATIONS WILL LOOK LEGIT BUT IT IS JUST SPAM!

I apologise to everyone who has been spammed by these people.

    Anyway, back on topic. These auto invite utilities that sites like Facebook and LinkedIn use have always made me nervous. I think spam is concerning, but what else do they do while they’re in your e-mail account?

    Anyway, back on topic. These auto invite utilities that sites like Facebook and LinkedIn use have always made me nervous. I think spam is concerning, but what else do they do while they’re in your e-mail account?

    Thanks for the warning there. I killed that comment as soon as I saw it.

    As for the keys to the kingdom, you are quite right. The problem is that these guys ruined it for everyone else. I haven’t had a problem giving Facebook or LinkedIn access to my address book because they haven’t abused my trust.

    I have since changed my password so that should stop future abuse by Quechup.
