When it is time to ignore the trolls … revisited

I have just been reading through an account of another crazy stalker harassing another blogger and it strikes me that it is a bad idea to enter into a debate with a crazy stalker (or any other stalker for that matter). Long, involved posts and comments explaining your position really don’t enlighten the psycho who is making your life difficult, it just provides him/her with more fuel to add to the fire.

    That’s the only way, Paul – resist the temptation to engage with them – they’re like racists and pro gun control fanatics – they have a very limited focus and they are absolutely persistent. You’re not dealing with rational people you can have a discussion with – they have a script and come hell or high water – they stick to it!

    The best thing is just to disengage or to not be provoked into engaging with people like this at all.

    There is a story about Maya Angelou who won’t be in the same room as a racist – she doesn’t even say anything, she just walks out.

Your post on your blog is pretty impressive, it contains just about every insult available (although I am sure your follow up will have a few more). I notice that people have to visit your blog to read it so it seems your nasty little battle against the world is really all about getting more people to visit your blog and it seems to be working. You are ranked pretty highly on Amatomu (number 9 overall at the moment). You are also ranked highly on SA Top Sites and SA Blog Top Sites. Well done.

    You are absolutely correct. It is tempting to engage when you read posts like the one this nut posted on his blog but then they don’t really matter in the long run. I was blogging before his blog was started and I’ll be blogging when his blog is gone.

    Don’t worry about being sued – those are just idle threats. The fact is that you can voice your opinions about others and their offerings freely according to the South African constitution last time I checked. So we want to hear what you think. 🙂

    If he does decide to sue you, get the best and most expensive lawyer you can. He will almost certainly loose the case and then you sue him for your legal fees. He ends up paying. So if he has any savvy left he will get some manners back.

    Dude, I am an expensive lawyer and the problem with getting sued is that you never recover all your costs, even if you win. It is often better to just stay out of court if you can.

    I wouldn’t bother suing some onanist that disagrees with me, but the fuckers that defaced my client sites caused damage.

    Guy, one question – why is your business url “trafficdepartment.co.za” ? It screams of “spam”… sorry, I mean “scam”… because clearly your business has nothing to do with the traffic department and you’re hijacking their name to increase Google click-through traffic.

    My suggestion is to take the huge amount of advice that has been handed your way over the past week, whether you like it or not, and build on it – there’s nothing better than constructive criticism. And as someone with over 10 years of industry experience I think you can appreciate that. Prove me wrong.
