It is Barbie’s fault!

I am in the middle of a debate with a friend of mine about how our attachment to our physical appearances really dictates how we feel about ourselves.  This is hardly a new idea.  I suppose the question is why we are so hooked on our looks and what our movie stars, music idols and other people we look up to to the point that our whole sense of self comes to depend on that?
