Terrorist plot details emerge

Terrorists planned to use MP3 players
and energy drinks to blow up as many as 10 jetliners bound for the
United States, authorities said Thursday.

A senior
congressional source said it’s believed the plotters planned to mix a
"British version of Gatorade" with a gel-like substance to make an
explosive that they would possibly trigger with an MP3 player or cell
phone.

British and Pakistani authorities joined forces to block the plot to bomb the airliners, officials said.

British
police acted urgently overnight, arresting 24 people in what U.S.
government officials said privately could have been the biggest
terrorist attack since 9/11.

In response to the threats passengers were required to remove all liquids from their carry on luggage and check everything into the hold of their planes.  What is next?  No electronic devices on long haul flights to protect against possible terrorist attacks?  Terrorists are pretty well organised and really innovative.  If this is what they came up with now, the next effort may involve components sewn into clothing or perhaps even genetically engineered bio-weapons?  Scary prospects.

There are other events in our world which are related to these attacks.  The current crisis in Lebanon is an extension of these threats.  Hizbollah is believed to be a terrorist organisation and they have been one of the groups involved in terrorist attacks perpetrated against Israelis for decades now.  When these attacks are planned against us, in our home cities (London, New York, wherever) we are in favour of tough measures to clamp down on our attackers or would-be attackers.  We support measures to protect ourselves and our families.  Why is the Israeli campaign so different?  Granted the loss of life in Lebanon is a terrible consequence of the campaign.  At the same time, let us not forget that Israelis live with the constant threat of terrorism every day from a mixed bag of extremist organisations whose primary purpose is the utter destruction of a nation.  What would you support if you lived under this threat every day?
