17 inch MacBook Pro!

And they have done it again!  Apple has launched a 17 inch MacBook Pro and, oh my hat, it is a honey!  Interesting that there wasn’t massive fanfare on the occasion of its release.  Take a look for yourself:

17inch MacBook Pro

Of course the new MacBook Pro has all the yummy goodness of the 15 inch MacBook Pro.  Here are some of the specs:

MacBook Pro At a Glance

  * 15.4- or 17-inch widescreen display

    * Up to 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo

    * 667MHz frontside bus and main memory

    * PCI Express architecture

    * Up to 120GB Serial ATA hard drive

    * ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with up to 256MB memory on 16-lane PCI Express

    * ExpressCard/34 slot

    * Dual-link DVI, VGA adapter included

    * FireWire 400, FireWire 800 (17-inch only), and USB 2.0 ports

    * Optical digital and analog audio I/O, built-in microphone and stereo speakers

    * Slot-loading SuperDrive

    * Illuminated keyboard, Scrolling TrackPad

    * Built-in AirPort Extreme (802.11g), Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, and Gigabit Ethernet

    * Mac OS X Tiger with iLife ’06 featuring iWeb, iWork ’06 trial, and more

    * MagSafe Power Adapter

I see two interesting features on the 17 inch that weren’t on the 15 inch.  This baby has Firewire 800 and an 8X Superdrive DL.  Both features disappeared from the 15 inch when it came out a while ago.  I wonder if this is a sign of things to come?  for my part I am waiting for a replacement for the 12 inch PowerBook (preferably one I can’t fry eggs on).  A dual layer drive for that little baby together with all the other funky stuff the MacBook Pro comes with will be just fine.

The big question is whether this incarnation of the superfast MacBook Pro will suffer from the same complaints as its predecessor.  Actually there is another question.  When are the iBooks coming?  Those ought to be very cool.
