Amazing new features of Windows Vista

Bill Gates gave a keynote speech recently at CES where he discussed Microsoft’s latest innovations.  Of course he focussed primarily on the upcoming Windows Vista (apparently scheduled for release later this year) and all the amazing things it will do.  Chris Pirillo has a nice summary of Gates’ presentation on Windows Vista:

In the first broad demonstration of Windows Vista for consumers, Gates showed how Microsoft’s next-generation operating system, due later this year, will offer customers powerful new advances in security, search capability and digital entertainment. He highlighted how Windows Vista will bring clarity to customers’ digital world and help them easily accomplish everyday tasks, instantly find what they want, enjoy the latest in entertainment, keep their personal information safe, and stay connected at home or on the go.

Truly Windows Vista will be quite an improvement on Windows XP.  There are, however, many Apple OS X users out there who question the novelty of these advances in the Windows platform.  MacLive.net has posted a brilliant video a subscriber sent to them which encapsulates this scepticism.  You know what they say, where there is smoke, there is fire …

I'm actually planning to post about this at some stage…

During the holidays, I spent a bit of time playing around on my brother's 12″ PowerBook (he works for MissingLink) – funnily enough, I'd say about 80% of the upcoming interface features of Vista are based at least partly on OSX's. I've been playing around with early versions of Vista, and it's not groundbreaking at all, but it's also what's behind the scenes where the major changes are…

As an MS insider, I know what's potting below-board, but it was really interesting to see the similarities either way!

As a huge Mac fan I have to admit Vista doesn't really excite me a great deal. I'm curious but there is no way Bill is going to get me to migrate back to windows after years of stable and successful times on my Mac…
