Tip: get your LinkedIn Network updates in your feedreader

I am on a mission to reduce the amount of email I receive each day. I’ve noticed that a significant majority of my daily email comprises updates from various social services (many of which I set not to send me emails). I don’t really see much value in most of that email so I sat down this morning to work through about 25 emails from one day and unsubscribe from as much of it as I can.

One of the emails I receive is a daily email with updates from my LinkedIn network. I am interested in what people in my network are doing but I really don’t want email about it all the time. I was messing around in my settings the one day and noticed a cool option – Network updates by RSS!! I use RSS daily and get most of my news and content through my feeds (I use Feedly either in the Web app or through Reeder on my iOS devices). This appeals to me because it doesn’t clutter my inbox and I can scan through updates when I check my feeds.

Here is how you can enable your Network updates in a feed:

Celebrate!

Once you have done that, go through all your email settings and edit those email frequency settings to suit your preferences. Here is a handy help article that will explain how to do it. Check through all the options. It will take a little time but it will be worth it!

I really hope firefox 4 delivers, it really feels like they've lost momentum, I think Chrome took everyone by surprise.

Mozilla has taken flack for not being aggressive enough and I think there is some truth to that. I still think it is a terrific browser but Mozilla was a bit slack with early 3.6.x releases, missing deadlines. The release schedule has really picked up since about 3.6.5 with that release and 3.6.6 coming in quick succession. I am using a 3.6.7 beta and it is stable and pretty fast.

I think there is a lot of hype surrounding Chrome and while it is a good browser, for sure, it isn't necessarily that far ahead of Firefox. Firefox is still huge and still growing. I maintain that it isn't an either/or choice either. I have both Chrome and Firefox on my dock and use them when I have a preference for either. I find Chrome's extensions a little flaky at times but they work well enough. I just don't think people should write Firefox off just because Chrome is doing well.

I certainly agree, I have both too, though I do find myself using Chrome more & more. I have been a fan of firefox since the early days and am not writing it off. Nice post.

great – but is there a way to do this now that LinkedIn have stopped their RSS feeds? Thanks!

I haven’t revisited this since LinkedIn stopped the RSS feeds but it was not a particularly user-friendly move.
