I'm a blind blogger and keep going back and forth as to whether Posterous or Tumblr is a better platform for me. Posterous is incredibly easy to use, however, i find its bookmarklet a bit buggy and there really doesn't seem to be many themes available. I'm told by sighted friends/colleagues that my Tumblr blog looks nice where as my Posterous blog is very plain. The one thing that really drives me crazy though is that Tumblr uses an embedded flash player whenever audio or video is posted. From an accessibility standpoint, this has the potential to create numerous challenges, not to mention the many people out there who for whatever reason, just don't like flash. Posterous, on the other hand, provides a direct download link making it possible for audio to be played in a more familiar media player. On the flip side, I like the fact that in addition to the post title, Tumblr posts the beginning line of the actual post. Although 140 characters isn't much, especially when part of that is reserved for the actual URL, that little intro often helps clarify the post's title and people seem to like it.

I've written to Posterous asking if they could tweet the beginning of posts in addition to the post title and I've written to Tumblr asking if there might be some way to incorporate a direct download link, or streaming link in addition to their flash player. Both services have responded that my ideas are wonderful and of course nothing's happened. For now, i”m continuing to use Tumblr as my primary blog, I like that it shares more of the post via Twitter. I'm feeding the Tumblr blog, however, with Posterous, especially handy when on the road or as a way to circumvent Tumblr's ridiculous audio flash player.

For anyone interested in the accessibility issues concerning Tumblr and audio posting, I blogged about it here: http://steveofmaine.tumblr.com/post/381902582/p
